Soapy Joe's professional vehicle valeting in Bristol

Running is a great way to keep fit, but as with any health program or change in lifestyle, please don’t forget to consult your doctor before starting out.

Will Bristol become the Home of the Mile for Veteran Athletics?

Welcome to my website. My name is Darren Worlock and as a 37 year old Bristol man (borne and bred) I would like to answer the question above with a firm “yes”. Not only that, I hope to help prove it by beating the 4 minute mile when I turn 40. This site is more about that challenge than the city, so even if you aren’t a local, please keep reading.

Athletics and in particular running are alive and well in Bristol. With ever growing events like the Bristol Half Marathon (one of the largest in the country), the Race for Life and the Sport Relief Mile, people are discovering that running can be fun, rewarding and a great way to keep fit.

For some, these events are just the tip of the iceberg or useful  inspiration to go further and with the many running clubs in and around Bristol, the great local scenery and plenty of  places to buy good quality training gear, running has never been so easy to get into.

It’s not the preserve of the young though and with a little dedication, a fair amount of determination and quite a lot of perspiration, I intend to prove it by hitting that magic sub 4 minute mile. “Easier said than done?”. Well, yes, especially as like most people I have a full time job, family, friends and social commitments to maintain. However, with effort I think it’s possible and I have set up this website in the hope that it will:

  1. Encourage anyone who is interested to join in and beat that magic number
  2. Over time give information on my progress, training techniques and provide an outlet for some of the “pain” I am sure to experience
  3. Provide useful links, information and a contact point for veteran athletes

Please feel free to contact me at any time. It would be great to hear from anyone who is interested in athletics or would like to know more about achieving a sub 4 minute mile.
